UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2010
Dear Prayer Partners,
James 5:16b reads, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much? Thanks to all of you prayer partners who hold us and our ministry up before the Throne of Grace. We are honored to be a part of your ministry. We need and depend upon your prayers.
Sunday night, July 11, we had an evangelist in our church to show a video on Islam. One thing he challenged us to be is a witness. Early the following Monday morning I went to a neighborhood park to walk. As I pulled into the park a young man with a full beard walked into the park reading and holding up high a book in front of him. I had never seen him at the park, but I guessed he might be Muslim. As I approached the walking path I asked the Lord to let me speak with him.
As I approached the young man I made a comment to him that the book he was reading must be very important to him. He said, "It is the choly Koran.' I am memorizing this book." I mentioned to him that I have read the English version of the Koran. This comment arrested his curiosity as we walked together through the park. During the conversation I found out Ahmad is from Syria . This young man is 29 years old. He has been an internal medicine resident in Chattanooga for four years. He has been one of three preachers for the Chattanooga Islamic Center. Last week he was supposed to move to Arkansas . For over an hour the Lord allowed me the privilege to witness to Ahmad from the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament. We traveled together down the corridor of time from Adam, Moses and Abraham to Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior. We spoke about the virgin birth of Christ (which Ahmad believes) and the vicarious, substitutionary, atonement of Christ. This meeting was not happenstance. Our sovereign God is interested in the salvation of Muslims. Ahmad accepted some tracts to read. Prayer partners, please pray that the Spirit of God will work in his heart as he reads the Word of God in tract form.
Lord willing, August 20-28, 2010,1 am leading an eight-man team to Unalakleet , Alaska . We are helping our BIMI missionary Pat McCoy. Prayer partners, please pray our team will have a successful CLAIM mission project. Pray that we will be a positive witness to all of the people in the village of Unalakleet . Many people in this village need the Lord.
On July 23, 2010, Mom celebrated her 100th birthday. Our Pastor, Steve Roberson, and our church, Calvary Baptist Church in Chattanooga , allowed us to throw a "walk in" party for Mom. What a blessing it was to have the love and support of our church family to honor her. Several friends and family members came from out of town to celebrate with Mom. She was saved 88 years ago in a cotton gin warehouse in Dublin , Georgia , under the ministry of Evangelist Rodney "Gypsy" Smith. Mom continues to witness to people about salvation through our wonderful Lord. It was recorded of "Gypsy" Smith that he said, "I didn't go through your colleges and seminaries. They wouldn't have me.. .but I have been to the feet of Jesus where the only true scholarship is learned." We need to get at the feet of Jesus through His written Word and through prayer.
Glenda and I had an exciting week July 26-30. Each year our Pastor, Dr. Steve Roberson, conducts the Impact Youth Conference. It has been held in Gatlinburg , Tennessee , for a few years now. I would highly recommend this conference for your young people. There were over 2,100 young people registered this year, plus the adults. There were almost 100 churches represented. Many young people were saved and Christian decisions were made during the week. Prayer partners, please pray for these young people the hope of our country and world. Pray for their families and churches. Pray for our pastor and the other leaders reaching out to young people around the United States .
Thank you for allowing us to represent you on behalf of our wonderful Lord. We pray for you. Thank you for being our faithful prayer partners.
Forever in His Service,
Carl and Glenda Vonnoh
